Short Bio

Dr. Liyuan CHEN is an associate professor at the School of Education, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She obtained her Ph.D. in the sociology of education from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research focuses on educational opportunities and choice, academic mobility and knowledge production, as well as organizational change of world-class universities in the context of globalization. She has published articles in several high-impact journals, including Higher Education, Educational Research, Journal of Higher Education, etc., and received excellence research awards. Her most recent books include The Changing Global Science System: Academic Mobility and Knowledge Production (2024) and The Blue Book of Building World-Class Universities (2025). Her research has been funded by the National Social Science Foundation of China, the China Association for Science and Technology, the China Association of Higher Education, and university funding schemes.
