Short Bio

Lili Yang is an assistant professor at Faculty of Education, The University of Hong Kong. Previously she was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford, where she also received her DPhil in education. She specializes in cross-cultural comparison in higher education, with a keen interest in challenging the lingering inequalities and imbalances in higher education and research. Her research encompasses two interrelated lines of inquiry. First, drawing from traditional Chinese ideas and thoughts, Lili aims to integrate local knowledges into broader knowledge systems at both local and global levels, contributing to a deeper understanding and resolution of contemporary issues in higher education. Second, she engages in research on research, examining researchers, research activities, and the research environment and culture, to promote epistemic equity and justice in the global research system. Her recent book is Higher Education, State, Society: Comparing the Chinese and Anglo-American Approaches (Bloomsbury, 2022).
